Day of Victory, how far from us it seemed,
As if things could turn out like we dreamed!
Many weary miles we tramped through dust along the way –
What it took to bring about this day!
This Day of Victory
We strove for this prize,
This celebration
Through suffering made wise.
Such elation
With teardrops in our eyes.

Sweating by the furnaces, we faced our ordeal:
For this imperative, we forged a will of steel.

Those bare feet, that would scamper through the dew,
Marched across Eurasia, half a world away –
