From far far away
The black Volga meandered along
The smell of gasoline
A truck overtook all, dragged a long line behind him.(1a)
Dodged the Ringroad. (1)
The landscape looked miserable
That landfill, the construction site surrounded with roadsigns
That grey concrete wall, then suddenly red poppies
Everywhere along the road
Darkness fell quickly
A janitor scratched the frozen windshields
Some light blinked every time and then
A headlight burned
In so far as
Everything was shaking, rattling and muzzling
The black volga relentlessly dragged on (2)
To the South-East
To where it's warmer
To where nobody ever can detect it
Where villages, roads houses become worse
And the cops meaner
This was the place
Wave goodbye, smoke clouds and steam
The black Volga meandered away and poured forth
Into the Caspian Sea
Waves closed in
Seagulls circled slightly, settled down nimbly
None of the people noticed the car disappear
On the streets of the city
From far far away
The black Volga
The black Volga
