The Yellow River streaks beyond
The frontiers of China consistently
She cannot be tamed so very easily
And her vengeance plainly seen so
Her presence seen in all that is
From the heavy rains come deluge
That stirs the sifting soil to soot
Her colour is the land she bears upon
She washes away lives in her wake
Unaware of those who e'er near
Massive amounts of earth carry on
To benefit or to bring a horrid end
But in the dry times drought comes
An extreme that too brings famine
Like a moody mistress unkempt
She holds no mercy for her man
She is China's Sorrow sourly scorned
And humanity bears her scars there
Those that they have self wrought
By treating her mother earth so
What is green will hold the land
What is yellow will come clear
What is parched white can breathe
What is starved will rebound 'gain
The air was filled with dust
The water too, filled with soot
The land without soil, infertile
Can once again be China's Sorrow
