When darkness falls outside
And when the day turns into night
Yes, then we gather all to hear
Of legends and of myths
Of voyages, of exploits
Of fates and adventures
So we listen to the tales
From the old book there (x)
Horrified and amazed,
Over the words about Sweden (there)
And how our future is unknown.
There are gloomy and sorrowful tales,
About people that didn't fare well
But then there are also others
Where the sun seared the soul with her heat
Of Accidents and sorrow,
But also of joy, happiness and gold.
So we listen to the tales...
Swedish soldiers in ragged clothes, (1)
Before battle they just wanted to go home
Our heroes frozen and cold (2)
Went into the field to fight and die.
Or were hurt and wounded,
As a prisoner, whole ranks had to go.
So we listen to the tales...
(INTERLUDE)
Many kings have fought for the country
Many people that have served so well.
And the ancient gods and deities,
Of whose heritage is told about here
Of Intrigues and horrors,
Such as disease, pestilence and famine.
So we listen to the tales...
Here our ancestors fought and toiled,
Pleaded for gold and food on their table.
Here they fought for the gods and the future,
Served the King and Mother Earth.
Many a rebellion and insurrection,
Also benefited the stride so well
And So we listen to the tales
From the old book there
Why (do I) now (have) this feeling,
Like from the ends of the worst tales,
Like from the ends of the worse tales.
