In a world where birds rule

Offerings left out to appease

Their vigilant numerous masters

A squirrel defiled the feeder

And dared to steal from the gods

To the squirrel it was shocking

That mankind so prejudiced

Would belie a bushy rodent so

The true measure of cute

Cut short by a feeding frenzy

Furry, unfeathered fiend and foe

They share the trees and wires

But not the treats and suets

Grounded unlike avian divine

Reduced to a bushy-tailed rat

No more than a pest to avoid

To scrounge for leavings left

Maligns the chattering squirrel
