I can remember
the divided city well,
the time of the cold warriors
that had many scars
The borders became gates
In a night of jubilation,
freedom was reborn
and shone in all its glory
There was a new horizon
A new future in sight
We sunned ourselves in the intoxication of freedom
Were drunk on happiness
But when one is sober again,
and the daily routine wakes us,
With many only the longing and the sight remain behind
I have not forgotten the time,
and where I came from,
I have sung, loved, and danced
but wanderlust was always there
There was a new horizon
A new future in sight
We sunned ourselves in the intoxication of freedom
Were drunk on happiness
But when one is sober again,
and the daily routine wakes us,
With many only the longing and the sight remain behind
