Once so rare, so secluded
Doomed by DDT back then
But in today's time renewed
And multiple pairs come
Their aeries are enormous
Along the water's edge
Flying fishermen soaring
Diving to grasp their prey
So majestic in flight
Dwarfing a trailing gull
Gliding gracefully onward
Upon zephyrs that flow
Above the shallowed corridors
In search of prey, opportunistic
Getting the lay of the land
This winged sentinel swoops
But at day's end dimming sun
The dying rays send all home
To roost when cold climbs in
And sleep overtakes a regent
