The lights went out, they brought out the cake
Parents, uncles & friends cheered,
All at once, they cried together:
Make a wish,
Make a wish!
And you, nervious,
as always when you feel like you are the centre of attention,
fixed your eyes on some place in the dining room.
One second, two seconds, three seconds, four ... & five.
You eyes danced around thinking of a wish
the candles were burning & some of the friends
were focusing their cameras on you
a voice said: "How gorgeous she is!"
and I, in the background, reached the bottom of my glass
decided to find a suitable corner
to make myself small, small
the size of a fly
the size of a mosquito
For once dwarfed, under stools
and the table lengthened by two tressles,
I carefully made my way past a tangled mess
of winter shoes & crushed confetti
and sprint, whilst cursing the length of my new steps
and hide myself b/n a cork & the wall
just in time to avoid being eaten by a brute of a the cat/the cat from hell
and climb the edge/border of your dress
and wedge my left foot in a loose stitch
and get to your shoulder
and sit on a button
and take a deep breath
with a single jump
latch on to your hair
and launch myself in a final last jump
and get access to your wish through the corner of your eye
Now a foot, now an arm, now the chest, now the head
and now inside your wish I check out if there is a good atmosphere
give out some cards
be nice to people
and with the manners of a discrete & educated young man
pay my repects to authority
listen attentively to curious battles of the elderly
take funny photos with other distinguished guests
and with one man with a tie who I don't know
and inside the cloud of dreams that you have available
and others that, I'm sorry, but you will never see again
find a way that I can get away from the group
or a quiet shadow where, unnoticed,
stretch a bit and at last relax celebrating
the indescribable pleasure to be with you today as you get older
while outside your eye, the candles are going out.
