Hearts swell and thump
To the pounding drum beat
That is the anthem of war
Pulling them toward morality
But there is no music heard
No marching to be had
That will bury the dead
Or comfort those so sad
Eyes concentrating, closed
Sensing serenely the moment
Stupendous splendor valor
Bathed in its glory
Here is where is the draw
Attired in a national cloak
With pride and decoration
No thought for what comes
But in my tattered mind
The shadows of the past
A place where the thumping
Is but an age's torture
The tears are not of awe
A silent heart is broken
A sound that is unheard
Yet overtakes our breath
A soul torn and twisted
Knowing the barbarism of man
The bared enevidable truth
It cannot hide from the light
Their muted cries veiled
In the cannon fire salute
But those who have been
See the magestic truth
Peace is but a span of brevity
In a moment the sun peers
Through the obscurity of clouds
Revealing some warmimg hope
Eyes closed, it comes out
I long to see the smiles
To find those tears of joy
To know a valid wonderment
Play it loud, shout it out
Patriotic, and boldly clear
For their ears are sodden
Beneath their eternal green garb
My heart beats, its obligation
