I want to talk about my history
Written with blood and great glory
In order to say that a handful of men
All of them living free and proud
Were sold by the Genoese
Under the greedy French
In a wicked and false trade
Not even having been consulted.
In that year of despair
That violently announced
So much sorrow and jail
To those who gathered to resist
Seizing our island with violence
Making every hope vanish
Not even feeling ashamed
Our history testifies to it.
The great battle of Ponte Novu1
Between our heroes and the scoundrels
Saw a red river flowing for several days
Due to the Corsican blood .
After that great mess
That forced to exile
The bald man form Merusaglia2
Having little chance to return back
My dear Corsican brother
I will always be on your side
To defend with no regret
The moorish head on white ground.3
