Friday Conversation: What Holiday Gift Are You Still Upset About Not Receiving?

Friday Conversation: What Holiday Gift Are You Still Upset About Not Receiving?

It’s that time of year again. The time where all the shopping is done, right Everything is wrapped No worries. We aren’t judging. But with gifts in mind, it’s impossible not to think of the things we want, or better yet, the one gift that got away. Every person has one. For some, it was a doll. For others, it was a video game. It’s that white whale gift that always seemed to sit higher on the shelf than others. Being as this is a real tragic issue, some of our staff decided to weigh in on the gift they never got…

Andy Isaac

Growing up with two older sisters wasn’t easy. I had to play with Barbies, Cabbage Patch Kids and had way too many tea parties with stupid dolls and, wow, this is an awful memory. Anyway, I wanted someone to play with, something to call my own because apparently this is what kids did in the 1980s. I wanted “My Buddy” — a comically oversized doll with red suspenders and a blue hat. I never got it, mostly because I think my mom didn’t like me (not true, I was her favorite).

Dan Seitz

I always wanted an Optimus Prime when I was a kid. When I was an adult and it was re-released, I was totally going to get it… until I saw the $80 price tag. Womp womp.

Jameson Brown

Mine was always Monster Face. I remember the first time I saw the commercial…I had to have it. I think precisely when the green brain goo oozed out is when I made this decision. But my mom hated it. I honestly think she didn’t mind me having it, but didn’t want guests or anyone to see it around our house. Well, one Christmas passed and it fell by the wayside. Sad. I’d still probably play with this thing for hours.

Steve Bramucci

I’m terrible at receiving gifts. “Did I show enough gratitude” “Do they feel that I love it” “Are they happy with the level of my reaction” After becoming Star Wars obsessed, I desperately wanted the Ewok Villiage plastic set. Instead, my dad made me one, out of wood. Looking back now, the wood one is unarguably better, and a lovely memory of my dad, who passed away… but I remember thinking, “No, I need the plastic one!” Which makes me feel horrible even to write.

Sound off and let us know below what holiday gift got away from you.
