Friday Conversation: What’s Your Favorite Star Wars Moment?

The day has FINALLY come! Star Wars: The Force Awakens is here and we can all rejoice, hold hands, sing songs, or whatever. Some of us have been waiting years for this new kickoff to hit the theaters, so today is euphoric to say the least. But what’s made this day/film so exciting Well, the original trilogy (no, I’m not delving into the prequel trilogy — it’s Friday and, no) offered sci-fi, fantasy, and most of all, humanism. A New Hope was our first glimpse into this shiny new world, with Empire being one of the best second installments (and love stories) in film history. And finally, Jedi was a decent, fun-to-look-at, cap-off. The trilogy was adventure, love, and fun. With these thoughts in mind, a few staff members decided to weigh in on their favorite Star Wars moment…

Lando blowing the hell out of the Death Star, no question. Probably Lando’s finest moment, and definitely the most enjoyable Death Star destruction. You’d think Billy Dee Williams really had just blown a space station out of the sky, he’s so happy.

Hands down it’s the moment Han and Leia have before he gets frozen in his carbonite tomb. That famous line (improv’d, I believe) is another true testament to not only his character, but their relationship. They truly know they love each other. Nothing more needs to be said. This scene’s parallel is Han shooting first in A New Hope, as this immediately shows us how Han rolls. I’ll also say this is one of my favorite love stories. Alongside True Romance, it doesn’t get much better than this.

My favorite Star Wars moment was in Return of the Jedi, when Darth Vader is forced to choose between the Emperor and his son. It’s a great moment of redemption that is aided by the score, the psychotic glare of The Emperor, and the silent decision by Vader. Great stuff.

Then George Lucas finally screwed with it and ruined it. Now Darth Vader talks. It was the first time I honestly disliked George Lucas.

So, what’s your absolute favorite Star Wars moment
