This week has been a good one for comic book (and film) fans. And regardless of what side of the fence you stand on regarding the newest Suicide Squad trailer, it is exciting to finally see some of these DC characters make it to the screen. Some have already been there, but others haven’t. Marvel has done a great job creating the MCU, but now it’s DC’s turn. Man of Steel may not have been the best film to really kick things off, but Batman V Superman and Suicide Squad (as of now) look like damn fun entertainment.
We’ve had a lot of Iron Man, Thor and Cap over the years, so let’s start chatting about who we can’t wait to see pop up in the DC Cinematic Universe. Naturally, our staff had some strong weigh-ins…

Captain Boomerang, no question. I grew up reading Suicide Squad comics, and Boomerang was great because he was a straight-up coward. He ran, he hid, he shoved people in front of bullets, he backstabbed. It was awesome. Watching him steal a beer and run away from a fight in the trailer was hilarious.

Danny Trejo as Lobo, please. That is all.

Yes, I know. Of all the DC characters proposed (and forgotten) by the Justice League film lineup, Batman has had the most exposure. From Adam West’s campy take on the character in the late ’60s television series and movie, to Christian Bale’s intense realism in the Christopher Nolan trilogy, it’s difficult not to find a stretch of time in which Bill Finger and Bob Kane’s concept has found an outlet. (Unless, of course, you can forget that Val Kilmer and George Clooney ever happened.) So, why more Batman Well, why not The Dark Knight has been a popular character for so long because of how rich a tapestry Finger and Kane initially created for the billionaire-turned-vigilante. A character so rich that audiences have been able to enjoy such a wide swathe of interpretations — West, Bale, Michael Keaton, Kevin Conroy, and hell, even Kilmer and Clooney. There are so many things that can be done with the Batman, which is why Zack Snyder and Ben Affleck want to bring yet another version to the fore in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Metahumans, gods and aliens B*tch please, I’ll take a cunning human being any day.

I’m most excited to see Darkseid and the New Gods at some point. I love the old Jack Kirby DC creations from when he left Marvel. Since it isn’t likely we’ll see Kamandi at any point, I want to see the New Gods make their appearance in some form.
Sure, it won’t have that Kirby influence. But it is the closest we will be getting and Darkseid is just pretty damn cool.
A Final Crisis influenced tale would be cool too, since Grant Morrison is a Scottish mad man and he gave the crazy Kirby characters an equally crazy story to live in

Batman. The answer is always Batman because there can never be enough Batman. I don’t care if I know his origin story better than I know my own and I don’t care who plays him, ultimately. No hero is cooler or more interesting. No one has better villains or cooler toys. No, you’re stupid.
Alright, what DC Comics character are you most excited to see on the big screen
