For some time it seemed as if Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill, the voices of Batman and The Joker in the classic Batman: The Animated Series, were on the verge of retiring their famous interpretations of the comic book characters. That changed when they both returned for an animated version of Alan Moore and Brian Bolland’s Batman: The Killing Joke, and it seems like the dynamic duo plan to continue their partnership.
Conroy and Hamill were part of a panel at this weekend’s Fan Expo Canada in Toronto, and according to ScreenGeek, both men gave an emphatic “No” when asked if they were done with Gotham City. Conroy reportedly then turned to Hamill and asked…
“What do you think about doing ‘Hush’”
Hamill responded with an intriguing question of his own.
“What do you think about doing ‘A Death in the Family’”
Well, they didn’t ask me, but I’m going to go ahead and give them the thumbs up to both. Written by Jeph Loeb and penciled by Jim Lee, “Hush” sees Batman taking on most of his classic rogues gallery and a mysterious new threat named Hush, in a story that revived mainstream interest in Batman comics. Meanwhile, “A Death in the Family” is the story where Joker beats the Jason Todd version of Robin to death with a crowbar after fans infamously voted for him to be bumped off.
Batman: The Killing Joke wasn’t a hit with most critics, but it was a fairly substantial success for Warner Bros. Animation, so this was probably more than a mere tease and likely an indication that the “Conroy and Hamill Do the Classics” series will continue.
