If you were a kid in the ’90s, there’s a good chance you were pants-wettingly terrified of the Goosebumps books. Whether you came across these delightfully terrifying books at the annual Scholastic Book Fair (the best time of the year!) or from the shelves of your school library, they were prime reading under the covers way past your bedtime material. R.L. Stine was the crafter of many a childhood nightmare (who could forget Welcome To Dead House or The Haunted Mask), and we all thank him for it. Goosebumps eventually got turned into a surprisingly fun movie, and it looks like Stine is looking to conquer a new medium.
According to his Reddit AMA on Monday, Stine will be working with Marvel on a new comic series. When a fan inquired about whether or not he would ever consider writing comics, Stine dropped a news bomb.
“I’m writing a series of comic books for Marvel. My first comics ever. But I’m not allowed to talk about them yet.”
While this certainly isn’t much information to go on at all, the thought of Stine bringing his own spin on a Marvel comic is pretty thrilling for a certain generation. This isn’t the first time that Marvel has brought on non-comic authors to work on their comics: Ta-Nehisi Coates and Roxanne Gay have contributed to recent (and well-received) Black Panther comics, and thriller author Chelsea Cain unfortunately was met by some gross misogynistic opposition to her run of Mockingbird comics. Hopefully things work out better for Stine.
