Comedy legend Norman Lear — whose television pedigree includes (but isn’t limited to) All in the Family, The Jeffersons, Good Times, and Maude — previously entered the streaming era with his Netflix series, One Day at a Time. And with its second season renewal, the show and its executive producer won’t be leaving the digital limelight anytime soon. But a single show on one of the larger streaming outlets currently operating won’t be Lear’s only contribution to contemporary business as usual, as the 94-year-old icon is set to debut his own podcast in May.
According to PodcastOne, All of the Above with Norman Lear will “[take] listeners on an enlightening ride of conversation, from comedy to family, current events, music, politics, social issues and more” once a week. Though the news doesn’t specify how long typical episodes of All of the Above will be, PodcastOne contends Lear will bring “his progressive and boundary-moving voice to the microphone with this rare and intimate” look at various issues, and with numerous celebrity guests. Including Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Veep), Jerrod Carmichael (The Carmichael Show), Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreation), and America Ferrera (Superstore).
Deadline reports these initial conversations will cover “the basketball talents of Louis-Dreyfus’ son and Veep with Julia, race in media with Carmichael, training for a triathlon with Ferrera, and religion with Poehler.” That, and whatever else Lear and his sidekick, Paul Hipp (The Middle) decided to tackle when All of the Above premieres Monday, May 1st.
