Damien Chazelle has been nominated for three Oscars (winning once for Best Director), shut down a Los Angeles freeway, and quoted That Thing You Do! with Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, all before he’s even turned 33 years old.
He’s living his best life, and it’s about to get even better. Following the criticial and commercial success of La La Land, Chazelle is set to helm his first television show, The Eddy, which the Hollywood Reporter describes as “a musical drama set in contemporary multicultural Paris that revolves around a club, its owner, the house band, and the volatile city that surrounds them.”
The project will be written by Jack Thorne, who recently penned the play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child alongside J.K. Rowling… Glen Ballard, who’s best known for co-writing Alanis Morissette’s Jagged Little Pill and Michael Jackson’s “Man in the Mirror,” and Six Feet Under‘s Alan Poul are attached as executive producers. No network is attached yet, but considering the talent involved (and that if you ask Chazelle nicely, he might give you Gosling’s number), it’s inevitable someone will bite. Hopefully it’s not Amazon, though. We’ve already suffered through the silliness of La La Land vs. Moonlight — there’s no need to do the same for The Eddy vs. Underground Railroad. Unless they both get nominated for Outstanding Drama Series. Then things could get interesting…
