Just two days before his phenomenal one-man show, Career Suicide premieres Saturday, May 6th at 10 p.m. ET/PT on HBO, Chris Gethard announced something pretty awesome. His popular public access late night program, The Chris Gethard Show, which recently spent two seasons on Fusion, is moving to truTV. Set to premiere sometime later this year, the series’ long-awaited third season will consist of 16 one-hour episodes broadcast live from New York City. And if what Gethard tells Uproxx in an upcoming interview for Career Suicide is any indication, fans won’t be disappointed in the slightest.
“If you’re a fan of The Chris Gethard Show and you’ve been waiting — and rooting — for the third season, you won’t be disappointed,” says Gethard. “In fact, I think it’s going to happen in a way where people lose their minds a little bit.” The Upright Citizens Brigade alum wasn’t allowed to say much at the time, as the new deal first reported by Deadline wasn’t yet set in stone. Judging by his excitement about the show’s new home, however, we’re incredibly glad we waited for the final word.
“I’ve long admired truTV for their brand of honest, in your face comedy. Myself and the gang from The Chris Gethard Show are thrilled to have a new home on the network and are licking our chops for a chance to match the bar truTV has set the past few years,” he said in an official statement. “I also can’t believe they’re letting us do the show live. Kudos to them for embracing what could be a real disaster. My promise to you though is that should it be a disaster, The Chris Gethard Show on truTV will be the most watchable disaster the world has ever seen.”
If you’ve never watched The Chris Gethard Show before, you’ve done yourself an incredible disservice. Many of its Fusion-era episodes are available in full on the official YouTube channel, including Diddy’s “fight” with executive producer Zach Galifianakis and Mad Men actor Jon Hamm’s disastrous wrestling match. “If you’re a fan of the show,” Gethard told us back in April, “I think people are going to really flip out at what we’re about to pull off.”
