If there’s one person in this world who knows brutality it’s Game of Thrones creator and author, George R.R. Martin. The man has killed off more beloved characters in his books than you can even imagine, and they have been formed into one of the most popular TV shows ever.
However, there’s one bit of brutality even Martin thinks is too much and that is the world of sports. Specifically the New York Giants.
Martin, for those unaware, is a huge New York Giants fan. Which means for him the last few days have been pretty brutal. New York has decided that it’s done with the current core it has and wants to hit a bit of a reset button. That likely means drafting a new, hopeful franchise QB in the upcoming draft and being bad for a few years to add more talent. This also means removing current pieces such as Landon Collins and recently trading star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.
Martin didn’t take too kindly to the trade though and made a post to his personal blog titled “Kill Me Now” in response to the trade.
The Giants are GOING FOR IT ALL, clearly.
Yes, they are. During the season they traded their best run-stopper, Snacks Harrison. Come to offseason, they let Landon Collins, an All Pro safety and the heart of their defense, walk for nothing. Then they traded their best pass rusher, Olivier Vernon.
And now they have traded OBJ. Their best wideout, and one of the very best in the NFL. I’ve been watching and rooting for the G-Men since “the Greatest Game Ever Played” in 1958. Beckham was not only the best receiver on today’s Giants, but he was the best receiver this storied NFL franchise has EVER had in their long history, and probably the best receiver they will ever have. They are certainly not going to replace him with the 17th overall pick in the forthcoming draft.
That is the pain of a sports fan that is fed up watching their favorite team stomp on their hearts with stupid decisions. Trading a top wide receiver like Beckham is going to be hard for any Giants fan to stomach. Especially longtime ones. This only gets worse for them when they consider that part of the reason the decision was made was because Giants executives thought Beckham was too much of a “distraction” due to the problem of actually having a personality. Heavens the thought.
Well Martin can at least be happy with the idea of the Giants replacing Beckham with another prolific player to pair next to their future rookie QB right Someone that will make the offense just as fun as he did.

And nevermind. Sorry, Martin. You’re in for a tough few years.
