Mark Hamill Has Skeptically Weighed In On A Rumored ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ Poster

Mark Hamill made a rule that he’s done talking about future Star Wars movies, following his public disagreement with Rian Johnson’s vision for Luke Skywalker in The Last Jedi, but rules, like droids, were meant to be broken. The actor was recently asked to comment on the “leaked” poster for Star Wars: Episode IX — there’s a 99 percent chance it’s fake, but you never know. (I, for one, would like that weird fish alien thing standing behind Finn to be real.) Hamill confirmed as much, tweeting that it’s “doubtful” that it’s real, and it’s most likely “the work of a #UPF,” his preferred hashtag for an ultra-passionate fan.

Hamill also tweeted about the title of Episode IX (“As of now, Episode IX“) and mocked Mike Lee, a Republican senator from Utah, using a tauntaun from The Empire Strikes Back to attack the Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez-backed Green New Deal. “I was foolish to think this was photoshopped,” he wrote. “Had I recognized that this guy was a Republican, I would have instantly realized this was his argument against Global Warming. #CongressSmellsBadOnTheInside.”

Hamill is very good at Twitter and an equally great role model. When a teacher asked him what it’s like to be a role model for thousands of kids and adults alike, Hamill replied, “It’s an awesome responsibility I don’t take lightly. Thankfully, Luke is the role model — not me. It’s wonderful George Lucas created a character so optimistic, is devoted to positive values & acts selflessly for the good of others. Kids need role-models in these challenging times.”

Star Wars: Episode IX opens on December 20.
