It’s been nearly three years now since Gina Torres was written out of USA Network’s Suits, and nearly two years since the network announced that her character, Jessica Pearson, would be getting her own spinoff. In the intervening years, Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams), Robert Zane (Wendell Pierce), and Rachel Zane (Meghan, Duchess of Sussex) have also left the series (and the latter of whom is currently experiencing drama more befitting another USA Network series, Royal Pains), only to be replaced by Dule Hill and Katherin Heigl.
With the parent series embarking on its ninth and final season, USA Network has finally decided to launch the first season of the spin-off, Pearson. Here’s the trailer:
The spin-off series will actually launch on July 17th, following the final season premiere of the final 10-episode season of Suits. In Pearson, Gina Torres’ Jessica Pearson won’t be a lawyer (she’s been disbarred), but she may put some of her legal skills to use as she enters the seedy world of Chicago politics as the mayor’s fixer. The series will also star Morgan Spector as Mayor Bobby Golec, Eli Goree (Mad Dog in Riverdale), Isabel Arraiza (The Oath), Simon Kassianides (Agents of SHIELD), Bethany Joy Lenz (Colony) and Chantel Riley (Wynonna Earp). Veteran television writer Daniel Arkin (The Alias, The X-Files) will be showrunner. Here’s a poster for the series.
The final season of Suits, meanwhile, will track the gang as Harvey tries to salvage the reputation of the firm in the wake of Robert Zane’s disbarment, while also trying to hold on to what’s most important to him: His relationship with Donna (Sarah Rafferty).
Both shows will premiere back to back on July 17th on the USA Network.
