No, Gedo Did Not Step Down As NJPW Booker Before Dominion

NJPW

Earlier today, a report began circulating that Gedo had stepped down as the booker of New Japan Pro Wrestling before Dominion. This was first published by Miruhon and spread to the English-language part of Twitter by @STRIGGA (podcaster and owner of Cagematch.net and Purolove.com,) sharing a Kakutolog article about the report.

With Spandex reached out to NJPW sources for comment and was told that the reports of Gedo stepping down as the promotion’s booker are untrue. A source within the NJPW office went as far as to call it “a crazy rumor.”

If true, Gedo’s resignation would have been a huge moment for the pro wrestling world. Gedo has had a behind-the-scenes role in New Japan for the better part of a decade and has been head booker of the company since 2015, a period in which New Japan has been financially successful in Japan and has expanded internationally. Though he has his critics, his work during this time has also been widely praised.

Gedo debuted as a wrestler in 1989 and has found most of his in-ring success in a tag team with Jado in promotions like WAR, FMW, and NJPW. He is also known as the manager of Kazuchika Okada from 2012-2018 and of Jay White from 2018 through the present.
