Jon Moxley, fka Dean Ambrose, has been making waves since he chose not to re-sign with WWE and left the company this spring. He spoke out about his frustrations with WWE’s creative process, won a championship in his first match for New Japan Pro Wrestling, and returned to his deathmatch roots for his new home promotion, All Elite Wrestling.
Given WWE’s usual practice of not directly acknowledging most other wrestling promotions, it’s not surprising the Superstars haven’t been talking about Mox nearly as much as the fans. However, in a recent interview with Sports Illustrated that mostly promoted his appearance in Hobbs & Shaw, Moxley’s former SHIELD brother Roman Reigns wished him the best:
I don’t think our working relationship is going to be what it used to be, but I’ll always love that guy, he’ll always be my close friend, and I wish the best for him. I wish the best for him, his family, his wife, and we’ll always be friends for the rest of our lives… We have a brotherhood, so I’m always cheering for him. I’ve shared so many great moments with Ambrose, or Mox. We have love for each other well beyond the wrestling, and it will always be that way.
Reigns’ approach to the Mox subject is very different from that of the third Hound of Justice, Seth Rollins, who talked about how the AEW wrestler “took his ball and went home” and said he thought it was “a little presumptuous of him to get on a podcast and talk down about the company that gave him such opportunities.” But to be fair, that was in the context of an interview largely about Rollins addressing his comments about criticisms of WWE rather than promoting a movie and an iced tea commercial.
