When the kids were small
They were taught to be proud
That their country was great
Their president as well
Even children abroad desired
To be great men and women
Dreaming someday to be
In a great land of democracy
But none now want its position
When they grow up to learn
And find the truth to be misery
The cost to sanity is too great
Who then has done this so
The moguls of media dictate
Their minions eager to please
The desires of their masters
No man walks the earth easy
And must leave tracks behind
The faults of being mortal bound
Are the highlights they employ
Do we all forget what it is
To be in charge, to stub a toe
Reminders of our familiar follies
That teach us empathy too
So why do we so eagerly absorb
Lies and convolutions conveyed
And leave reason behind easily
Believing its demagogues
None now wish the office
In a world full of great things
Save the demented or unwary
Sacrifices, socialistic design
None can be great if not allowed
That their ambitions watched
Criticisized and betrayed by rogues
That know no integrity beyond
What country can be great
That allows its leaders to be
None but puppets of the media
Its whims, its quips, and quirks
All citizens become a mediocrity
A nation losing itself in distrust
And democracy fails its foundation
More cracks form in Liberty's Bell
