Living silently in our midst
An instant, a shadow's flicker
Quaking, skittish in proximity
Opportunist of substainance
Such a tenuous trembling life
Denizen destructive pleats a nest
Competition's caste, a fickle fate
This common carrier of disease
Doomed to desperate dismay
Days that are now tallied
Perchance to squeak
Ere a snapping, a sickly end
And then to squeak no more
